Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Faces Scrutiny for Failing to Report Products
Kobayashi Pharma failed to report red fermented rice items; ministry demands report by Wednesday.
Japan's Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co. said on Friday that it
had neglected to notify the health ministry about certain items that it had
sold to five businesses that included its red fermented rice, or "beni
koji."
As an original equipment manufacturer, Kobayashi
Pharmaceutical delivered the items to the five firms. Kobayashi Pharmaceutical
stated that it had believed that these items were exempt from the ministry's
requirement for reporting.
The Osaka-based firm was asked by the ministry to submit
items that had the same quantity of beni koji—or more—than the supplements that
were the subject of the health danger controversy.It was discovered in June
that Kobayashi Pharmaceutical had omitted certain deaths that were allegedly
connected to the aforementioned supplements.
The government claims that none of the goods produced by the
five firms are now on the market. If there are any goods other than those of
the five firms that contain beni koji and are required to reporting, Kobayashi
Pharmaceutical has been requested by the government to report by Wednesday.
