Eli Lilly Pledges Donations for Team USA's Olympic Success

Eli Lilly has promised to pay $5,000 every time Team USA sets a record or wins a medal, giving 24 U.S. health equality groups even more incentive to watch the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

The pharmaceutical company has agreements with NBCUniversal, the U.S. media partner for the games, as well as the American Olympic and Paralympic teams. Taking advantage of these connections, Lilly used gymnast Simone Biles in an advertisement for Mounjaro, a GLP-1 diabetic medication, and promised to “fight like hell” for healthy bodies in a 60-second video that was added to their expanding collection of corporate awareness advertisements.

Lilly launched their "Milestones into Meaning" contribution initiative concurrently. As the name implies, the corporation will make a financial contribution for each achievement achieved by Team USA, including medals and world, Olympic, and Paralympic records.

Team USA won an average of 218 medals in the three previous Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games. The highest number of summer trophies won in the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2016 games was 236. Based on past results, Lilly is probably going to pay a little over $1 million for each podium slot that Team USA earns.
