Abeona Therapeutics Inc. announced that NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY has been activated as the newest Qualified Treatment Center (QTC) for administering ZEVASKYN (prademagene zamikeracel) gene-modified cellular sheets. This location becomes the fifth QTC in the company’s network, adding an important treatment site for patients in the New York metropolitan region and the broader Northeast.
According to Madhav Vasanthavada, expanding the QTC network into an institution known globally for its expertise in genetic medicine and its longstanding experience treating blistering skin disorders is a meaningful step. He noted that this partnership helps ensure patients receiving ZEVASKYN will benefit from highly specialized clinical care throughout their treatment.
Additional perspective was shared by Aimee Payne, MD, PhD, who also serves as Dermatologist-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She emphasized that incorporating this gene therapy reflects the institution’s leadership in precision medicine and its ongoing commitment to supporting patients with epidermolysis bullosa.
She explained that the multidisciplinary care model in place is designed to assist patients throughout their lives, including the key transition from pediatric to adult care. For families affected by recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, she highlighted that access to this therapy represents not just a new treatment choice but also a meaningful step toward improving quality of life by helping restore function, confidence, and daily comfort.
