Baxter Showcases IV Verify System To Improve Medication Safety And Nursing Efficiency At Bedside

Baxter International Inc. introduced its IV Verify Line Labelling System at the American Organisation for Nursing Leadership Conference 2026, presenting an automated solution designed to enhance medication safety and streamline nursing workflows. Developed through an exclusive partnership with Vigilant Software, the system aims to address long-standing challenges in IV line identification and labelling.

Medication errors remain a significant concern in hospitals, particularly in intensive care settings where multiple infusions are managed simultaneously. Studies have shown that a large proportion of IV labels fail to meet hospital standards, increasing the risk of incorrect medication administration. The IV Verify system addresses this by enabling clinicians to scan a drug barcode and instantly generate standardized, three-part adhesive labels containing key information such as drug name, administration time, and tubing change schedule.

“Frontline clinicians manage complexity every day, and even small inefficiencies can create risk,” said Athar Mirza, U.S. and Canada general manager of Baxter’s Infusion Therapies and Platforms division. “At Baxter, we are committed to supporting nurses at the bedside with tools that can help make care safer and more efficient. The IV Verify system replaces handwritten labels with easy-to-use technology that supports consistency, saves time and helps clinicians confidently trace IV lines so they can spend more time focused on their patients.”

The system is designed to improve patient safety by replacing inconsistent handwritten labels with clear, uniform identifiers, potentially reducing medication errors and complications such as bloodstream infections. It also enhances nurse efficiency by simplifying IV line tracing and eliminating manual calculations through colour-coded labels that indicate tubing change times. Early data suggest clinicians can save one to two minutes per IV setup, allowing more time for patient care.

Additionally, the labels are built to remain legible in demanding clinical environments, with multiple placement points along the tubing to improve visibility and accuracy. The launch reflects Baxter’s continued focus on practical innovations that support frontline healthcare workers while improving safety standards. The IV Verify system is now available in the United States.
