CytomX Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company specialising in masked, conditionally activated biologics, has announced the appointment of Dr. Charles Fuchs to its Board of Directors. The company believes his extensive experience in oncology research, clinical development and biopharmaceutical innovation will strengthen its leadership as it continues advancing its pipeline of cancer therapies.
Welcoming the appointment, Sean McCarthy, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of CytomX Therapeutics, said that Dr. Fuchs is a highly respected oncology expert with more than three decades of experience spanning academic research and global drug development. He noted that Dr. Fuchs has played a key role in advancing multiple cancer treatments from early-stage research through regulatory approval, and said his expertise in oncology product development, particularly in gastrointestinal cancers, will be valuable as CytomX progresses Varseta-M and its broader PROBODY therapeutic pipeline to improve outcomes for patients.
Dr. Fuchs brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in oncology research and drug development. He currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Tubulis, where he leads the company's clinical strategy and pipeline development. Before joining Tubulis, he was Senior Vice President and Global Head of Oncology and Hematology Drug Development at Genentech and Roche, overseeing the development and approval of several innovative cancer therapies, including Lunsumio, Columvi, Polivy and Tecentriq.
Prior to his work in the biopharmaceutical industry, Dr. Fuchs served as Director of the Yale Cancer Center and Physician-in-Chief at Smilow Cancer Hospital. During his tenure, he contributed to the launch of several biotechnology companies and founded EvolveImmune Therapeutics. Earlier in his career, he held several senior leadership positions at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, including Chief of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Division, and at Harvard Medical School, where he established leading research programmes focused on gastrointestinal cancers and cancer epidemiology.
In addition to his current role at Tubulis, Dr. Fuchs serves as a Senior Advisor to Frazier Life Sciences. He is a board-certified medical oncologist and holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Harvard Medical School, as well as a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His broad experience across clinical practice, academic research and pharmaceutical development is expected to support CytomX as it advances its oncology pipeline.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Fuchs said he is pleased to join CytomX Therapeutics at an important stage in the company's growth. He noted that the company's PROBODY platform has the potential to improve the safety and effectiveness of cancer therapies by expanding their therapeutic window and addressing significant unmet medical needs.
He also expressed enthusiasm for the Varseta-M EpCAM antibody-drug conjugate programme, highlighting its potential to improve treatment for patients with colorectal cancer, and said he looks forward to working with the Board and management team to help advance the programme through pivotal clinical studies and towards regulatory approval.
