Editas Medicine Appoints Dr. Patrick Ellinor To Board Of Directors

Editas Medicine, Inc. (Nasdaq: EDIT), a gene editing company developing transformative treatments for serious diseases, has appointed Patrick T. Ellinor, M.D., Ph.D. to its Board of Directors, effective August 6, 2026. At the same time, the company announced that Elliott Levy, M.D. will step down from the Board and his position as an independent director after serving for the past three years.

Dr. Ellinor is widely recognized for his contributions to cardiovascular genetics and has spent his career advancing the understanding of heart disease through human genetics research. His work has helped identify new therapeutic targets for cardiovascular conditions and supported the development of potential treatments by translating genetic discoveries into clinical applications. He has also built strong collaborations across academic institutions and the biopharmaceutical industry to accelerate medical innovation.

He currently serves as Executive Director of the Mass General Brigham Heart and Vascular Institute, where he leads one of the largest integrated cardiovascular organizations in the United States. In addition, he is the Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Initiative at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, overseeing multidisciplinary research that combines human genetics, genomics, artificial intelligence, and therapeutic discovery. His experience spans clinical care, scientific research, and leadership in cardiovascular medicine.

Jessica Hopfield, Ph.D., Chair of the Editas Medicine Board of Directors, said Dr. Ellinor's appointment comes at an important stage for the company as it advances its gene editing programs. She noted that his extensive scientific expertise and experience connecting research, clinical medicine, and therapeutic innovation will provide valuable strategic guidance as Editas continues developing EDIT-401 for the potential treatment of hyperlipidemia and expands its differentiated in vivo gene editing platform.
