Eppendorf Launches CellXpert CS220

Eppendorf has launched an innovative CO2 incubator shaker that includes a unique 180˚C sterilisation process. Manufactured in Hamburg, Germany, the CellXpert CS220 is the first shaker to incorporate the well-established contamination protection standards used in CO2 incubator-based cell cultivation — specifically, the 180 °C sterilisation method. 

This design simplifies disinfection, as it eliminates components like drive wheels, cover sheets, cables, and heating fins from the stainless-steel chamber. Additionally, the CellXpert CS220 offers up to 40% more flask capacity and boasts the largest platform size-to-footprint ratio available on the market.

Maria Mattern, responsible for innovations in the Eppendorf shaker and CO2 incubator portfolio, stated “Our new CellXpert CS220 was developed specifically to speed up mammalian shake flask culture projects and to meet the industry’s increasing need for higher contamination prevention standards. Most, if not all current CO2 incubator shakers in the market are microbiological shakers with optional CO2 control. This is also reflected in the low level of cleanability and missing sterilisation functions of these devices, as contamination is usually not a major issue in microbiological applications.
