Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies has launched a new
microbial fermentation facility in Billingham, significantly boosting its
production capacity. The facility now includes a new production line featuring
two 4000-liter fermenters, a primary separations suite, and a modular
purification suite, effectively tripling its microbial production throughput.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the facility can easily
adapt to accommodate future projects, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of
Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies' partners while enhancing supply chain
resilience. This expansion was partly tailored to support a major
pharmaceutical partner in producing a specialized ophthalmic treatment for wet
age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Lars Petersen, President and CEO, Fujifilm Diosynth
Biotechnologies, said “With the completion of this project, we are fulfilling
our commitment with our partner, and supporting the commercialization of its
ophthalmic therapeutic. This is a prime example of our partnership-based
business model, a key element in our Partners for Life strategy, to help our
customers bring their life-impacting medicines to patients.”
