Hikma Acquires 17 Takeda Brands In MENA To Strengthen Operations

Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, a global pharmaceutical company, has announced an agreement with Takeda Pharmaceuticals International AG. Under this agreement, Hikma will acquire the rights to Takedas’ 17 brands to be licensed to Hikma in select markets across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Since establishing a strategic partnership with Takeda through various licensing agreements, including the latest in 2017, Hikma has been marketing and, in some cases, manufacturing a range of products in the MENA region. These products span key therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular health, diabetes, gastroenterology, and pain management.

Under the new agreement, Hikma will fully take over the rights to these 17 brands. The company plans to continue marketing the products while gradually shifting their manufacturing in-house. This move aims to ensure a stable supply of these vital medicines for patients throughout the region. The acquisition is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and boost the profitability of Hikma’s branded product portfolio.

“We have been successfully commercialising this portfolio of products across the region for a number of years, supported by our highly specialised sales and marketing team with strong local market expertise. By bringing these products in-house, we will not only ensure an uninterrupted supply of products to our customers but will also have better control of our supply chain, which will result in cost saving opportunities over the medium term. We are confident this acquisition will strengthen our Branded business and reinforce our commitment to provide high-quality medicines to patients in MENA,” said, Mazen Darwazah, Hikma’s Executive Vice Chairman and President of MENA
