From pouring tea at Amrutatulya Tea Centre in Narayan Peth,
Pune, to pioneering the affordable 'Indus knee' replacement, Mankind Pharma
showcased a poignant documentary highlighting the remarkable journey of
orthopaedic surgeon Dr. KH Sancheti. This event took place at Pune's JW
Marriott on August 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. Dr. Kantilal Hastimal Sancheti, hailing

the founder of Sancheti Hospital. He has been honored with the Padma Shri in
1991, the Padma Bhushan in 2001, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2012 by the
Government of India in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the
medical field.
Dr. KH Sancheti, a veteran orthopaedic, said in a statement,
“All my life, even before being a doctor, my aim was to earn respect and
recognition, not money. To date, I carry three things in my pocket – a wooden
piece, a handkerchief and a cellphone, only to come up with innovative
techniques and machinery so that my patients can have the very best without
worrying about the expenses.”
The screening began with a virtual address from Rajeev
Juneja, the director of Mankind Pharma. “This initiative is a tribute to the
unsung heroes who, despite leading what some might call a ‘mundane life,’
illuminate the lives of others through their unwavering dedication and
resilience,” Juneja remarked. Attendees, including the Dean of Sassoon General
Hospital and representatives from Sancheti Hospital and Mankind Pharma, enjoyed
a captivating presentation on Dr. KH Sancheti's illustrious career. They were
also given an insightful glimpse into the values and principles that defined
his remarkable legacy. The screening concluded at 1:30 p.m. with Mankind Pharma
honoring Dr. KH Sancheti and his wife, who were met with a warm round of
applause from the audience.
Parag Sancheti, chairman and managing director of Sancheti
Hospital, said “The documentary made all of us a bit emotional. I also recalled
how while growing up, father never really sat with me or my siblings at the
dinner table to discuss science or teachings. There was no pressure, it came
quite naturally later. His greatest legacy is his humble and hardworking
nature, which not only heals his patients but also gives hope.”
