Inspire Medical Systems Appoints Michael H. Carrel To Board To Strengthen Future Growth Strategy

Inspire Medical Systems, Inc., a medical technology company focused on developing innovative and minimally invasive treatments for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), has announced the appointment of Michael H. Carrel to its Board of Directors, effective 20 July. The company believes his extensive leadership experience in the medical device industry will support its long-term growth as well as help advance its mission of expanding access to effective OSA therapies.

Welcoming the appointment, Tim Herbert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Inspire Medical Systems, said that Mr. Carrel brings extensive executive leadership, board-level expertise and a proven track record of developing and commercialising minimally invasive medical technologies. He added that his experience will provide valuable strategic guidance as the company continues to expand Inspire therapy and improve outcomes for patients living with obstructive sleep apnea.

Mr. Carrel currently serves as President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors at AtriCure, Inc., a company specialising in innovative cardiac medical devices. Since taking over as CEO in November 2012, he has led the company through a period of significant growth while overseeing the development of a strong portfolio of products for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, left atrial appendage management and pain management.

During Mr. Carrel's leadership, AtriCure has achieved remarkable commercial success, with annual revenue increasing from $82 million in 2013 to $535 million in 2025. The company's innovative technologies have also helped more than one million patients, reflecting both its expanding global presence and its commitment to improving patient care through advanced medical solutions.

In addition to his role at AtriCure, Mr. Carrel served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Axonics, Inc. from 2019 to 2024 until the company was acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, bringing both financial expertise and extensive leadership experience to Inspire's Board.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Carrel said he is excited to join Inspire Medical Systems at an important stage in the company's growth. He noted that the recent launch of the fifth-generation Inspire device, a strong product pipeline and a growing body of clinical evidence demonstrating the long-term benefits of Inspire therapy, particularly for cardiovascular health, position the company well to continue expanding access to care and improving treatment options for patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
