Indian Pharmaceutical Association Appoints Dr R N Gupta As New President For The 2024-2026 Term

Dr. R.N. Gupta has been appointed as the National President of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), the nation’s largest and oldest organization for pharmaceutical professionals. His leadership tenure will commence on October 1, 2024, and extend through September 30, 2026.

With almost 50 years in the pharmaceutical sector, academia, and research, Dr. Gupta is an Adjunct Professor at NIPER, Kolkata. His extensive career includes positions at Smith Stanistreet Pharmaceuticals in Kolkata, the Bihar State Pharma and Chemical Development Corporation in Patna, Eastern Chemical Industries in Cuttack, and the Birla Institute of Technology in Ranchi. Dr. Gupta has contributed over 100 research articles to peer-reviewed journals and authored two books, one on ‘Pharmaceutical Marketing Management’ and the other on ‘Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in Hospital Pharmacy’. Additionally, he has mentored eight doctoral students.

Dr. Gupta has been a staunch supporter of the pharmaceutical profession, advocating for its advancement through over 350 ‘Letters to the Editor’ and achieving many favourable outcomes. His pioneering paper, “A Spotlight on GMP,” published in August 1980, was instrumental in shaping Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules in 1988. His expertise has been sought by numerous expert committees of IPC, PCI, DGHS, and other government agencies, and he has served as a reviewer for the National Formulary of India.

Dr. Gupta’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Eminent Pharmacist Award, Best Pharmaceutical Scientist Award, Schroff Memorial Award, P.C. Ray Gold Medal, S. Laskar Pharma Excellence Award, M.L. Khorana Best Paper Award, IPA President Oration Award, Best Professional Award, Pharma Achievement Award, and the Jharkhand Gaurav Award.

For the 2024-2026 term, the IPA has elected Dr. Subhash Mandal as the National Honorary General Secretary and Dr. Alka Mukne as the Honorary Treasurer. The vice presidents will be Raj Vaidya (Chairperson of the Community Pharmacy Division), Dr. G Sumalatha (Chairperson of the Education Division), Dr. Ramesh Adepu (Chairperson of the Hospital Pharmacy Division), M. Vasudev Rao (Chairperson of the Industrial Pharmacy Division), and Dr. A. Ramkishan (Chairperson of the Regulatory Affairs Division). Additionally, Dr. Anuradha Majumdar has been chosen as the Editor of Pharma Times, and Dr. S. Vidyadhara will serve as the Editor of the Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IJPS).
