Jyong Biotech Reaffirms Global Licensing Strategy For Botreso To Address Growing BPH Market

Jyong Biotech Ltd., a biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing plant-derived therapeutics, has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding global licensing partnerships as part of its long-term strategy to address unmet medical needs in the field of urology. Building on the momentum from its participation at the BIO 2026 International Convention, the Company said it continues to hold discussions with international pharmaceutical companies and industry partners across multiple regions with the goal of strengthening its global collaboration network.

The Company stated that it remains focused on leveraging its proprietary botanical drug platform to expand its presence in the global botanical therapeutics market. Jyong Biotech is the first Taiwanese company to advance an oral botanical drug candidate into Phase III clinical trials approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), highlighting its experience in developing plant-based therapies for international markets.

According to the Company, it has already established collaborative relationships with several international pharmaceutical companies and investment institutions and has successfully completed its first licensing agreement. Jyong Biotech said it will continue to prioritize innovation, intellectual property protection, and global patent development as it seeks additional strategic partnerships.

A major focus of the Company's partnership discussions is the growing global prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common urinary condition that primarily affects aging men. As the prostate enlarges over time, patients may experience symptoms such as weak urinary flow, incomplete bladder emptying, intermittent urination, terminal dribbling, urinary urgency, increased frequency of urination, nighttime urination, and difficulty starting urination. If left untreated, the condition may also lead to complications including urinary tract infections, bladder stones, urinary retention, and impaired kidney function, significantly affecting patients' quality of life.

Jyong Biotech highlighted research from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 study and *BMC Urology*, which estimates that the global number of people living with BPH reached approximately 112.5 million in 2021, more than doubling from around 50.7 million in 1990. The patient population is projected to increase further to between 150 million and 156 million by 2035. Reflecting this growing demand, the global market for BPH treatments is estimated to be worth approximately $13 billion in 2025 and is expected to expand to between $22 billion and $22.6 billion by 2035.

Despite the increasing market size, the Company noted that substantial unmet medical needs remain. Current treatment options, including alpha-blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs), are often associated with side effects such as dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, ejaculatory disorders, and sexual dysfunction. According to the Company, these adverse effects contribute to treatment discontinuation rates ranging from 60% to 90% over a five-year period, highlighting the need for safer long-term therapeutic alternatives.

To address this need, Jyong Biotech is advancing Botreso® (API-1), its investigational botanical drug candidate for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The Company has completed four Phase III clinical trials in Taiwan and the United States involving research contributions from more than 200 urologists. Jyong Biotech believes the program supports its goal of developing a treatment that offers improved long-term tolerability while addressing the growing global burden of BPH.
