Zydus Lifesciences Chairman Pankaj R. Patel Honored with Padma Bhushan

Pankaj R. Patel, Chairman of Zydus Lifesciences, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors, by the Government of India in the Trade & Industry category. This prestigious recognition acknowledges Patel’s remarkable contributions to the pharmaceutical industry, innovation, and social impact initiatives.
With a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology from L.M. College of Pharmacy and an alumni background at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, Patel has consistently merged his passion for science with entrepreneurial acumen. He has published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and holds co-inventor status on more than 64 patents.
Leadership Across Sectors
In addition to steering Zydus Lifesciences to global recognition, Patel holds pivotal roles in prestigious institutions. He serves on the board of the Reserve Bank of India, chairs the Boards of Governors at IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Udaipur, and leads Invest India. His philanthropic ventures include serving as the Executive Chairman of the Gujarat Cancer Society and Chairman of the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, one of India’s largest cancer centers catering to underprivileged patients.Through the Zydus Foundation, Patel has championed initiatives like the establishment of Zydus Hospital and Medical College in Dahod, alongside extensive contributions to education, grassroots innovation, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.
A Visionary for Social Change
Patel’s leadership extends to empowering disadvantaged communities. As the Chairman of the Deaf and Mute School in Ahmedabad, he supports skill development for economically challenged women and advocates for sustainable development through Green Gujarat initiatives.The Padma Bhushan is a fitting recognition of Patel’s holistic vision—combining scientific innovation, compassionate philanthropy, and transformational leadership to shape a better future for India and beyond.
