Phathom Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing innovative treatments for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, has announced the appointment of Sanjeev Narula as its Chief Financial and Business Officer. Steve Basta, President and Chief Executive Officer of Phathom, expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment, stating that Sanjeev’s extensive financial and operational experience will play a crucial role in guiding the company through its next phase of growth. He added that Narula’s leadership will be key as Phathom continues to work toward achieving profitability and enhancing long-term value for shareholders.

Sanjeev Narula brings over three decades of global financial and operational leadership experience to Phathom. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer at Intra-Cellular Therapies, where he played a key role in the company’s financial and capital strategies leading up to its $14.6 billion acquisition by Johnson & Johnson.
Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles as Chief Financial Officer of Viatris and Chief Financial Officer of Upjohn, a former division of Pfizer. In these positions, he gained extensive experience across commercial operations, research and development, information technology, and global supply chain functions.
During his 16 years at Pfizer, Narula held several senior finance positions, including Chief Financial Officer for Pfizer’s Essential Health Business and Chief Financial Officer of the Primary Care Business Unit, which was the company’s largest commercial division at the time.
Earlier in his career, he worked in leadership roles at American Express and Xerox, building a strong foundation in financial management and corporate strategy. Sanjeev Narula earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics from the University of Delhi and is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
