Piramal Pharma Achieves Major Sustainability Milestone with Biomass Transition

Piramal Pharma Limited has taken a bold step toward sustainability by converting its coal-fired steam boiler at the Digwal, India facility to operate on renewable biomass briquettes. This transition is projected to reduce approximately 24,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually, representing 17% of the company’s total greenhouse gas output. As part of its broader goal to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030, this innovative shift underscores the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable manufacturing practices.

Chairperson Nandini Piramal emphasized the importance of this milestone, highlighting its alignment with global climate action frameworks and the company’s vision for a sustainable future. The use of biomass briquettes derived from agricultural waste promotes a circular economy by recycling organic by-products and reducing waste. CEO Peter DeYoung praised the initiative as a testament to Piramal’s dedication to responsible growth and operational excellence. Through such forward-thinking practices, Piramal Pharma Limited is setting a benchmark for sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry.
