Revagenix Promotes Peter Smith To Chief Scientific Officer To Lead Next Phase Of Growth

Revagenix, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing targeted medicines for serious chronic diseases, has announced the promotion of Peter Smith, Ph.D., to the position of Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). In his new role, Dr. Smith will continue leading the scientific advancement of the company's lead candidate, Rev-56, as it progresses through clinical development for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB). He will also oversee efforts to expand the therapy's potential applications while helping shape Revagenix's broader research pipeline across other chronic and recurrent diseases.

Ryan Cirz, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Revagenix, said Dr. Smith has played a key role in the development of Rev-56 from its earliest stages. According to Cirz, Dr. Smith guided the program through compound design, optimization, candidate selection, and extensive preclinical development while ensuring the treatment was specifically designed to meet the needs of patients with NCFB. He added that the promotion recognizes Dr. Smith's scientific leadership and positions him to guide the company's research strategy as Revagenix enters its next phase of growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Smith said he is honored to take on the role of Chief Scientific Officer at an important stage in the company's development, with Rev-56 now entering clinical studies. He explained that the research team designed the therapy by considering both the underlying science and the practical needs of patients. Throughout development, the company prioritized treatment tolerability and convenience, recognizing that long-term patient adherence is essential for preserving lung function and improving quality of life in people living with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. Dr. Smith brings more than 15 years of experience in drug discovery and development. He earned his Ph.D. from The Scripps Research Institute and joined Revagenix in 2022. Before joining the company, he spent eight years at Genentech, where he led research teams working on novel small-molecule therapies, with two development programs advancing into Phase 1 clinical trials. Earlier in his career, he co-founded RQx Pharmaceuticals, whose lead drug candidate was later licensed by Genentech in 2013.

In addition to his industry experience, Dr. Smith has made significant scientific contributions through research and innovation. He has co-authored 26 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is a named inventor on eight granted patents. His experience in translating early-stage scientific discoveries into clinical development programs is expected to support Revagenix as it advances Rev-56 while expanding its pipeline of targeted therapies for chronic diseases.
