Teva Gains Investment-Grade Status from All Three Major Rating Agencies After S&P Upgrade
S&P upgrades Teva to BBB-, completing investment-grade ratings from all three major agencies and signalling durable generics stabilisation.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' return to full investment-grade standing across all three major credit agencies opens a narrower but meaningful corridor for capital allocation decisions that plant heads and supply-chain leads will feel in coming budget cycles. S&P Global Ratings upgraded Teva's long-term issuer credit rating to BBB- from BB+ on September 4, 2026, with a Stable outlook, completing a trifecta that includes recent upgrades from Fitch and Moody's.
S&P's rationale centres on three operational pillars: sustained execution in branded products, stabilisation of the generics portfolio, and a late-stage pipeline carrying significant near-term assets. For manufacturing and quality organisations, the generics stabilisation signal is the more consequential read, it implies that capacity rationalisation and site-level cost discipline have reached a point creditors regard as durable, not cyclical.
CFO Eli Kalif framed the upgrade as a function of the company's Pivot to Growth strategy and progressive debt reduction, noting that investment-grade status "further enhances financial flexibility to invest in growth." Teva has not disclosed specific capital deployment targets tied to the rating change, so the translation from improved borrowing costs to facility investment or technology upgrades remains to be seen in forthcoming guidance.
The practical consequence of holding BBB- ratings from all three agencies is access to a broader institutional debt market at lower coupon rates. For a company carrying significant legacy indebtedness, that spread reduction can free cash that would otherwise service debt, cash that could, in principle, support process validation programmes, sterility assurance infrastructure upgrades, or biosimilar manufacturing scale-up aligned with late-stage pipeline readiness.
Teva's generics stabilisation, as characterised by S&P, will face its next measurable test when the company reports third-quarter 2026 results and updates full-year guidance against the backdrop of its newly consolidated credit profile.
