Thermo Fisher And Datavant Partner To Advance Real-World Data Integration In Clinical Research, Expands RWE Capabilities Through Strategic Data Collaboration

Thermo Fisher Scientific has entered into a strategic data collaboration with Datavant to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies better integrate real-world data (RWD) into clinical research. The partnership aims to simplify and accelerate the generation of high-quality evidence by securely linking real-world datasets with clinical trial data. The initiative will be led through Thermo Fisher’s PPD™ clinical research business.

“By integrating Datavant’s capabilities with Thermo Fisher’s data, digital and AI capabilities, we can help our customers accelerate insights and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” said Krishna Cheriath, vice president, head of digital and AI, biopharma services, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “This collaboration represents another milestone in our continued investment in digital transformation to accelerate innovation for our customers.”

Under the agreement, Datavant’s privacy-preserving tokenization technology will enable secure linkage of patient-level data across a vast healthcare network that includes more than 350 real-world data partners and 80,000 U.S. hospitals and clinics. This capability will support real-world data enrichment of randomized clinical trials, as well as enhance PPD™ CorEvitas™ Clinical Registries and PPD™ Evidera™ solutions. The collaboration allows secure connection of de-identified research datasets and retrieval of consented electronic medical record (EMR) data for customized RWD generation.

“Data interoperability is critical to the next generation of evidence generation,” said Karen Kaucic, M.D., president, patient and advisory services, and chief medical officer, clinical research, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “By enabling privacy-protected data connectivity at scale, this collaboration allows us to deliver a more seamless and efficient research experience for our customers.”

By embedding Datavant’s encrypted token technology into Thermo Fisher’s real-world data infrastructure, biopharma and biotech customers will gain access to more comprehensive linked patient datasets and advanced analytics. This integration is expected to support improved trial design, optimize patient recruitment, and accelerate evidence development, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes.

“This collaboration with Thermo Fisher underscores Datavant’s role in enabling secure, privacy-preserving data connectivity at scale,” said Arnaub Chatterjee, GM and President of Life Sciences at Datavant. “By combining Datavant’s trusted data linkage technology with Thermo Fisher’s deep clinical research expertise and infrastructure, we’re helping bring richer, more connected patient data into the research process. Reducing friction across the research lifecycle – from clinical trials through real-world evidence – is key so that our shared life sciences partners can generate insights faster and advance better outcomes for patients.”

The partnership aligns with Thermo Fisher’s broader digital transformation strategy, including its collaboration with OpenAI. It further strengthens the company’s position in real-world evidence (RWE), registry, and observational research services while reinforcing its commitment to applying advanced data and AI technologies across clinical development.
