Veru Strengthens Weight Loss IP Portfolio with Patent Covering Enobosarm-Based Quality Weight Loss Therapy

Veru Inc. has announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for a patent application covering the use of its selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM), enobosarm, in combination with weight loss therapies such as semaglutide. The notice confirms that the application meets patentability requirements and is expected to be granted as a U.S. patent.

The patent covers multiple treatment approaches, including the concurrent use of enobosarm with semaglutide, adding enobosarm after patients begin semaglutide therapy, and continuing or initiating enobosarm treatment after semaglutide is discontinued. These regimens are intended to support sustained weight management while improving overall treatment outcomes.

In addition, the patent portfolio of Veru includes patent applications directed to a novel, oral, modified-release enobosarm formulation, which if such patent were to issue, would provide patent protection until at least May 2046.” 

The allowed claims focus on preserving or increasing lean body and muscle mass, enhancing fat loss, improving physical function, supporting bone health, reducing insulin resistance, lowering HbA1c levels, and preventing weight and fat regain after stopping semaglutide therapy. The patent also addresses strategies to minimize lean mass loss during the rebound period following discontinuation of GLP-1 treatment.

Once issued, the patent is expected to provide protection until at least October 3, 2044, subject to potential extensions. Veru noted that the application strengthens its global intellectual property portfolio, which includes additional patent filings covering enobosarm in combination with various weight loss drugs, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and other emerging obesity therapies.
