Takeda Names Vatro Mateljic to Lead Canadian Operations
Takeda Canada names Vatro Mateljic as new General Manager, driving innovation in Canadian operations.
Takeda Canada Inc. has announced the appointment of Vatroslav (Vatro) Mateljic as its new General Manager, tasked with overseeing the Canadian operations of Japan's largest pharmaceutical company. With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, Mateljic has held senior leadership roles across sales, marketing, and country management. Prior to this role, he served as General Manager for Takeda in Sweden.
Ricardo Marek, President of Takeda’s Europe and Canada Business Unit, expressed confidence in Mateljic’s leadership, stating, “Vatro’s dedication to driving business growth and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance patient outcomes makes him an invaluable addition to our Canadian team.” Marek also highlighted Canada’s importance as a key market for Takeda and expects Mateljic’s leadership to strengthen the company’s biopharmaceutical presence.
Takeda Canada, established in 2009, has rapidly grown to become a leader in several areas, including gastrointestinal and inflammation, rare diseases, plasma-derived therapies, oncology, and neuroscience. Mateljic’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the company, which is focused on providing Canadians with access to innovative medicines and transformative care.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Mateljic said, "I am excited to lead the Canadian team during this important time for Takeda. My goal is to ensure that Canadians in need have sustainable access to cutting-edge treatments."
Mateljic holds a medical degree from the University of Zagreb and an MBA from the IEDC-Bled School of Management, bringing both medical and business expertise to his new role.
