Wilcrest Pharma Appoints Industry Leader Dr. A.J. Day as CEO
Wilcrest Pharma names A.J. Day, PharmD, as CEO, focusing on drug shortages and antineoplastic production.
Houston's newly established 503B outsourcing facility, Wilcrest Pharma, has appointed A.J. Day, PharmD, as its new CEO. Specializing in antineoplastic drug production and addressing drug shortages, the company is set to benefit from Day's extensive background in regulatory affairs and compounded medicine. Known for his commitment to expanding patient access, Day is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating Wilcrest Pharma's growth and broadening its product offerings.
Day said, “Addressing drug shortages makes it difficult to ensure optimal patient care. Wilcrest Pharma combines clinical and technical formulation knowledge with CGMP expertise to bring top-quality products to the market. Our goal is to provide solutions that meet patient needs with the timely and accurate delivery of medication.”
Wilcrest Pharma is set to manufacture top-tier sterile and nonsterile medications, addressing the needs of health systems, clinics, and pharmacies, especially for drugs that are hard to produce or often face shortages. Prior to this role, Day held the position of Vice President of Clinical Services at PCCA in Houston, a renowned supplier of pharmaceutical chemicals, equipment, and training for compounding pharmacies. Throughout his career, he has testified as an expert before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to advocate for the compounding industry, published various clinical journal articles, and conducted continuing education programs for healthcare professionals and regulatory bodies worldwide.
Day has an extensive background in pharmacy leadership, having served on the Compounding Steering Committee of the National Community Pharmacists Association. He has also been a board member for key organizations such as the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding, the Pharmacy Compounding Foundation, and the Texas Pharmacy Foundation. In addition to these roles, Day actively participates in various pharmacy organizations, including the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the American Pharmacists Association. His academic journey began with a chemistry degree from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in 2007.
