Dermata Therapeutics Reports Positive Topline Data from Tome Foundational Treatment Cosmetic Study
Dermata Therapeutics reports topline cosmetic study data for Tome Foundational Treatment, with 71% of participants showing improvement after one application.

Dermata Therapeutics has released topline data from a completed cosmetic clinical study of its Tome Foundational Treatment, with investigator-graded improvements across multiple skin appearance endpoints — results the company is positioning as clinical validation for a consumer skincare line built on its proprietary Bioneedle ingredient. For QA and regulatory leads tracking how cosmetic-adjacent claims are substantiated, the study design and endpoint selection carry operational relevance.
The open-label study enrolled 31 participants who applied Tome Foundational Treatment once weekly for four weeks. Investigators evaluated outcomes at multiple timepoints across endpoints including fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, smoothness, firmness, radiance, and overall appearance. Over 71% of participants were graded as showing overall skin improvement after a single treatment; self-evaluations completed after four treatments showed 93% of participants considered the treatment comparable to a professional in-office procedure. No treatment-related adverse events were reported.
The study was conducted as an open-label design — a format that limits blinding controls but is common in cosmetic efficacy substantiation. Regulatory affairs teams will note that the endpoints selected align with standard cosmetic claim support frameworks rather than 21 CFR Part 211 drug product requirements, reflecting the product's positioning as a cosmetic rather than a drug. The absence of adverse events across 31 participants provides a preliminary tolerability signal, though the sample size constrains generalisability.
Tome Foundational Treatment is powered by Bioneedle, described by Dermata as a purified freshwater sponge powder that the company wild harvests and minimally processes. The product is currently available direct-to-consumer at tomeskincare.com as a four-treatment one-time purchase or via subscription. Dermata Chairman, President, and CEO Gerry Proehl characterised the data as providing clinical backing for the company's studied skincare positioning at a commercially significant moment following the product's recent launch.
The broader context for industry observers is the increasing use of structured clinical studies — even at modest scale — to differentiate premium cosmetic products in a crowded market. How regulators and competitors respond to claim substantiation at this study size will be a reference point as Dermata moves to expand Tome's market presence.
The company has indicated it will continue building brand awareness around Tome, with these topline results serving as a foundational data package as distribution scales.
