Oryzon Secures Vafidemstat Patent Grants in Four Markets Ahead of Phase III BPD Trial
Oryzon secures vafidemstat patent grants in South Korea, Philippines, New Zealand, and Mexico ahead of a Phase III BPD trial.

With a Phase III trial in preparation for borderline personality disorder, Oryzon Genomics has moved to close geographic gaps in its intellectual property position, receiving decisions to grant for vafidemstat patent applications in South Korea, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Mexico. The timing is deliberate: durable exclusivity across key markets is a prerequisite for the licensing and partnership structures that typically underpin late-stage CNS programs.
The Korean and Philippine grants cover patent applications KR10-2021-7028149 and PH1-2021-552251, both directed at methods of treating non-aggressive symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). These allowances extend a family already granted or allowed in Australia, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States. The U.S. patent carries a term running to at least 2043, incorporating 1,095 days of Patent Term Adjustment; non-U.S. counterparts are expected to remain in force until at least 2040, absent further extensions.
New Zealand's grant covers application NZ760665, belonging to a separate family directed at aggression and social withdrawal. Corresponding rights are already secured or allowed in Australia, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Russia, with additional jurisdictions pending. That family carries a baseline term to at least 2038. Mexico's grant addresses a third family, application MX/A/2022/002420, covering methods of treating certain non-aggressive symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD); a corresponding Japanese patent is already in force, and the Mexican grant will run to at least 2040.
Vafidemstat is an LSD1 inhibitor in clinical development across psychiatric and neurodevelopmental indications. Beyond the BPD Phase III program, the compound is under evaluation in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase IIb EVOLUTION trial targeting negative symptoms of schizophrenia, with social withdrawal as a primary endpoint focus. Oryzon is also advancing a precision medicine strategy in genetically defined patient populations, adding a further dimension to the IP coverage now being assembled.
For regulatory and IP teams tracking the program, the multi-family structure across BPD, ASD, aggression, and social withdrawal creates overlapping exclusivity layers that will need to be mapped carefully against any future licensing terms or co-development agreements.
The BPD Phase III trial design and its alignment with the granted claim scope will be a key reference point as Oryzon moves toward regulatory submission packages in the jurisdictions now covered.
