India Unveils BioE3 Policy to Boost Biomanufacturing and Sustainable Growth

In an effort to promote high-performance biomanufacturing in India, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has adopted the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) Policy. The goal of the strategy is to promote sustainable growth in the biotechnology industry while also accelerating technology development and fostering innovation.

Across thematic sectors, the BioE3 Policy will foster entrepreneurship and research and development (R&D) through innovation-driven assistance. The policy would prioritise the expeditious advancement and commercialisation of technologies by means of the creation of Biomanufacturing & Bio-Al centres and Biofoundries.

The policy places emphasis on regenerative bioeconomy models as a means of fostering green growth. Additionally, the program seeks to increase India's trained labour force, which will support a boom in the development of jobs in the biomanufacturing industry.
