MilliporeSigma, the North American life science division of
Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, revealed plans to invest €62 million in
constructing a new quality control facility at its Darmstadt headquarters. This
initiative aims to consolidate about 135 employees from various departments
into a modern, collaborative workspace. Spanning nearly 10,000 square meters,
the building is expected to be finished by mid-2025. This project is part of a
larger investment program at the Darmstadt site, where the company intends to
allocate approximately €1.5 billion by 2025.

Designed to achieve the GOLD standard of the German
Sustainable Building Council, the facility will incorporate self-sustaining
regenerative energy generation and low-carbon construction practices. It will
also adhere to stringent safety standards suitable for genetic engineering,
biology laboratories, and dust-free environments that demand rigorous hygiene
protocols. All laboratories will meet GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
compliance guidelines.Darmstadt, Germany, holds significant strategic
importance as a hub for life science technologies within the company. Over the
next decade, approximately twenty percent of the business’s projected sales
from new products are anticipated to originate from this location.
