Telix Pharmaceuticals Joins Thera4Care Consortium to Advance TLX400-Tx FAP-Targeting Theranostics in Europe
Telix joins Thera4Care to clinically evaluate its FAP-targeting dimer with terbium-161, raising new GMP and supply chain questions for radiopharmaceutical manufacturers.

The shift from lutetium-177 to next-generation therapeutic isotopes is beginning to test radiopharmaceutical supply chains in ways that existing GMP frameworks were not designed to accommodate, and Telix Pharmaceuticals' entry into the Thera4Care consortium signals how manufacturers are responding. Announced 5 November 2026, the collaboration will deploy Telix's FAP-targeting dimer, DOTAGA.Glu.(FAPi)₂, as the clinical candidate for terbium-161 (¹⁶¹Tb) evaluation across a 27-partner European network spanning academic centers, healthcare providers, and industry stakeholders.
For radiopharmaceutical plant heads and QA directors, the operational weight of this announcement sits with the isotope itself. Unlike ¹⁷⁷Lu, ¹⁶¹Tb emits both beta particles and Auger electrons over extremely short distances, a profile that demands tighter containment specifications, revised radiolabelling protocols, and potentially new release-testing criteria under 21 CFR Part 211 and applicable EU GMP Annex 3 requirements. The consortium will also evaluate scandium-44, copper-64, and copper-67 labelled compounds, each carrying distinct production and quality control demands that current commercial-scale infrastructure has limited precedent for.
The Phase 1 clinical trial will assess the safety profile and preliminary activity of ¹⁶¹Tb-DOTAGA.Glu.(FAPi)₂ in patients with FAP-expressing metastatic solid tumors, with an initial focus on ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, and sarcomas. Telix's contribution covers preclinical and clinical activities; in return, the company will receive multi-center preclinical and clinical data to inform the broader development trajectory of TLX400-Tx (¹⁷⁷Lu-DOTAGA.Glu.(FAPi)₂), its own FAP-targeting program.
Thera4Care is coordinated by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Italy, with GE HealthCare as industry lead. The project is co-funded under the Horizon Europe framework through the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), a public-private partnership between the European Union and European life science industries, operating under grant agreement #101172788. Partners span 14 European countries and the United States.
For regulatory affairs leads tracking the theranostics pipeline, the consortium model introduces a multi-jurisdictional data-generation structure that will require careful alignment of clinical trial authorizations, investigational medicinal product dossiers, and isotope-specific quality standards across participating member states. The validated status of Telix's FAPi dimer across prior clinical studies provides a documented comparator baseline, but the isotope substitution from ¹⁷⁷Lu to ¹⁶¹Tb will require fresh bridging data to satisfy regulatory expectations on comparability.
The Phase 1 safety readout for ¹⁶¹Tb-DOTAGA.Glu.(FAPi)₂ will serve as the first structured clinical checkpoint for this isotope-ligand combination, with implications for how the broader consortium scales GMP-compliant production of novel therapeutic radioisotopes across European sites.
