Top 10 Pharma Companies in Indore to Know in 2026
Pharma Companies in Indore lists ten verified formulation, API and CDMO plant operators in Indore and Pithampur, plus the CDSCO sub-zone office, with dated regulatory status.

Most of the Indore region's drug manufacturing sits in Pithampur, where listed drugmakers run export plants under U.S. and WHO scrutiny. Every company below is checked against a filing, its own site or a regulator's document.
Why Indore matters to pharma manufacturing
For sourcing and quality teams, the Indore region matters as a base of export-oriented formulation and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) plants. Most of the plants below hold approvals from U.S., European or World Health Organization (WHO) inspectors, so a plant's regulatory status matters as much as its capacity. In the past three years, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) actions have touched at least four of the plants below.
Most of the plants are not in Indore district at all. They sit in Pithampur, in neighbouring Dhar district, in its industrial sectors and in the special economic zone (SEZ) that the FDA's own letters call the "Indore Special Economic Zone, Pithampur, District Dhar". Companies routinely label these sites "Indore". Inside Indore district itself, the confirmed sites in this guide are Symbiotec's API plant at Rau and its injectables facility at Mhow.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), India's national drug regulator, has run a sub-zonal office for Madhya Pradesh since 22 February 2010. It began inside the inland container depot at Pithampur to regulate drug exports, and now works from A.B. Road in Indore. The state licensing authority sits in Bhopal. Both are covered in the regulator section below.
How this list was built
Each company appears because a filing, its own site or a regulator's document places a manufacturing or research and development (R&D) operation in Indore district or the Pithampur industrial area (Dhar district). Every entry names the real district. Franchise marketers, distributors and online pharmacies are not listed, and inclusion is never paid. Each entry also carries the latest regulatory outcome disclosed for its sites, dated and in the company's or regulator's own words. For the national picture, see our guide to pharma companies in India and India's 20 largest pharmaceutical companies.
Pharma companies in Indore and Pithampur
The ten companies below are listed alphabetically, not ranked. Nine of the ten are listed on a stock exchange. Every entry carries a regulatory-status line with the latest outcome disclosed for its Indore-region sites, dated, so you can see how current it is.
1. Ajanta Pharma

Headquarters: Ajanta Tower, M V Road, Chakala, Andheri (East), Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Formulation plant at Pithampur, Dhar district, making tablets, capsules and liquids; the company does not publish the street address
Type: Formulations
Regulatory status: No regulator outcome for the Pithampur plant found in the Ajanta exchange disclosures checked for this article
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE (AJANTPHARM) · ₹5,453 crore (consolidated, as stated in the company's Q4 FY26 investor presentation)
Ajanta runs seven plants, according to its Q4 FY26 investor presentation of 5 May 2026, which names Pithampur alongside Paithan, Guwahati and Dahej. Its manufacturing facilities page lists the Pithampur plant for tablets, capsules and liquids.
In March 2025, Ajanta told the exchanges it would add a liquid formulation facility at Pithampur: 12 million bottles a year on a single shift, on top of the existing 6 million, at a cost of ₹92 crore, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of FY26, as Medical Dialogues reported. The company documents opened for this article do not say whether that expansion is complete.
The FDA inspection disclosures found for Ajanta concern its other plants. Buyers of Pithampur-made product should ask which regulators have inspected this site, and when. (Inference.)
2. Cipla Limited

Headquarters: Cipla House, Peninsula Business Park, Lower Parel, Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Plots 9 & 10, Pharma Zone, Phase II, Indore SEZ, Pithampur, Dhar district. Unit I makes oral liquids; Unit IV makes oral solid doses
Type: Formulations
Regulatory status: U.S. FDA warning letter dated 17 November 2023. A follow-up FDA inspection from 17 to 25 August 2026 ended with seven Form 483 observations, as reported from Cipla's exchange update of 25 August 2026
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26 (April 2025–March 2026): NSE (CIPLA) · ₹28,162.59 crore (consolidated, audited)
Cipla's audited FY26 results, approved on 13 May 2026, show consolidated revenue from operations of ₹28,162.59 crore and net profit of ₹3,861.74 crore.
WHO inspected the Pithampur units from 12 to 16 June 2023 and, in its public inspection report, found them operating at "an acceptable level of compliance with WHO GMP Guidelines" for products including antiretroviral, antimalarial and anti-tuberculosis tablets. The FDA's record runs differently. After a February 2023 inspection, Cipla disclosed eight Form 483 observations, then an Official Action Indicated (OAI) classification on 5 August 2023, then the warning letter, whose cited areas include investigations into albuterol inhalation aerosol complaints and controls against microbial contamination of sterile products. The August 2026 follow-up inspection is the latest step; Cipla said it "remains committed to addressing the observations comprehensively within the stipulated timeframe".
One site, two regulators, two different pictures. A buyer of WHO-prequalified products from Pithampur and a U.S. buyer would read this plant's file differently; both should read it by product and date. (Inference.) See also our coverage of the August 2026 inspection.
3. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals

Headquarters: Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Formulation plant at Plot 2, Phase II, Pharma Zone, SEZ, Pithampur, Dhar district (address as on the UK regulator's 2018 GMP certificate). The company calls it its Indore facility
Type: Formulations
Regulatory status: U.S. FDA warning letter, disclosed 12 July 2025, after an OAI classification disclosed 9 May 2025
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE (GLENMARK) · ₹169,825 million (consolidated, per the company's results release)
Glenmark's FY26 results release, filed on 29 May 2026, reports consolidated revenue from operations of ₹169,825 million and profit after tax of ₹13,620 million.
The company's facility page gives the site's annual capacity as 1,490 million tablets, 42 million immunosuppressant capsules and 80 tonnes of ointments and creams, serving North America and Europe, with U.S. FDA, UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), WHO-GMP and Czech approvals listed. The UK MHRA certificate, issued in July 2018, covers tablets and hard-shell capsules. The FDA inspected the site from 3 to 14 February 2025; Glenmark then disclosed an OAI status and, on 12 July 2025, a warning letter. In that disclosure, Glenmark said it did not expect supply disruption or an effect on current revenue from the site, and that the FDA reported "no observation related to data integrity".
The approvals list on the facility page carries no dates; the warning letter does. When the two disagree, the dated regulator document is the one to file. (Inference.)
4. Ipca Laboratories

Est.: 1949 (incorporation)
Headquarters: Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Formulation plant in the Indore SEZ (tablets and capsules); an API plant labelled "Indore"; a Pithampur biotech formulation site; and, through its subsidiary Unichem, a Pithampur API plant
Type: Formulations and APIs
Regulatory status: No adverse regulator outcome found in Ipca's exchange disclosures for these sites
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE (IPCALAB), BSE (524494) · ₹7,33,675 lakh (standalone, audited)
Ipca's audited standalone results for the year to March 2026 show revenue from operations of ₹7,33,675 lakh and net profit of ₹1,13,252 lakh. Ipca is also the holding company of Unichem Laboratories (No. 9).
Its June 2024 corporate presentation, the latest found, lists 26 manufacturing facilities. In the Indore region, an Indore SEZ plant makes tablets and capsules with approvals listed for the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, South Africa and WHO-GMP; an "Indore" plant makes APIs with Indian, EU and WHO approvals; and a Pithampur biotech site appears on its map. Ipca's API plant at Dewas is in Dewas district, outside this list.
Ipca labels the Indore SEZ and Pithampur as separate locations, though the Indore SEZ itself lies in Pithampur. Match each Ipca site to an inspection record by address, not label.
5. Lupin Limited

Headquarters: Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Three units in the Apparel Park SEZ, Phase II, Pithampur, Dhar district. Units 1 and 2 make tablets, capsules and suspensions; Unit 3 makes metered-dose and dry-powder inhalers, topicals and nasal solutions
Type: Formulations, including inhalation and topicals
Regulatory status: Unit 2: U.S. FDA classified the July 2025 inspection Official Action Indicated (disclosed 4 October 2025). Unit 1: Establishment Inspection Report (EIR), Voluntary Action Indicated, January 2025. Unit 3: EIR after a July 2025 inspection, reported November 2025
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE (LUPIN) · ₹279,580 million (consolidated, per the company's results release)
Lupin's FY26 results release, dated 7 May 2026, reports consolidated revenue from operations of ₹279,580 million, up 23.1%, and profit after tax of ₹53,555 million.
Lupin's manufacturing sites page places all three units in the Apparel Park SEZ. The FDA inspected Unit 2 from 8 to 17 July 2025 and issued a Form 483 with four observations; Lupin later told the exchanges the FDA had classified the inspection OAI and said it is "working with the U.S. FDA to satisfactorily resolve the compliance issues", as Business Standard reported. Unit 1 received an EIR with a Voluntary Action Indicated classification after a September 2024 inspection, and Unit 3 an EIR after its July 2025 inspection.
Three units, one campus, three different FDA outcomes in under a year. Qualify Lupin's Pithampur supply by unit number. (Inference.)
6. Macleods Pharmaceuticals

Headquarters: Atlanta Arcade, Marol Church Road, Andheri (East), Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Tablet plant at Plots M-50 to M-54-A, Indore SEZ, Phase II, Pithampur, Dhar district
Type: Formulations
Regulatory status: WHO prequalification inspection, 15–19 November 2021: found "operating at an acceptable level of compliance with WHO good manufacturing practices" (WHO public inspection report)
Listed: Not listed
Macleods' Pithampur site had its first WHO prequalification inspection from 15 to 19 November 2021. WHO's public inspection report lists four tablet products: film-coated tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg, flucytosine 500 mg, film-coated dolutegravir/lamivudine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 50/300/300 mg, and dispersible linezolid 150 mg. The report places the site about 41.7 km south-west of Indore.
WHO found the site "operating at an acceptable level of compliance with WHO good manufacturing practices" and said the report would remain valid for three years, provided any inspection in that period had a positive outcome.
That three-year window has now passed. Procurement teams supplying donor-funded programmes should ask for the site's most recent WHO or national inspection outcome rather than rely on the 2021 report. (Inference.)
7. Piramal Pharma

Headquarters: Mumbai
Indore-region operation: Plot 67–70, Sector II, Pithampur, Dhar district. Oral solid dose manufacturing in three blocks, plus a dedicated ophthalmics block; opened in 1991–92
Type: CDMO (oral solids, ophthalmics)
Regulatory status: No adverse regulator outcome disclosed for the site. The company reported no OAI outcome from any U.S. FDA inspection across its network in FY26
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE · ₹8,869 crore (consolidated, as stated in the company's results release)
Piramal Pharma's FY26 results release, filed on 28 April 2026, reports revenue from operations of ₹8,869 crore, down from ₹9,151 crore, and a net loss of ₹326 crore after an exceptional impairment of ₹196 crore. It lists Pithampur as one of nine contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) sites in India, and says the company cleared 38 regulatory inspections in FY26 with no OAI outcome from any FDA audit.
The Pithampur site was Piramal's first greenfield project, according to its facility page. It makes immediate- and modified-release tablets, hard gelatin capsules and blow-fill-seal and form-fill-seal ophthalmics, with a stated oral solid capacity of 4.5 billion units a year and batch sizes from 4 kg to 600 kg. The page lists U.S. FDA, EU GMP, Brazil's Anvisa, Australia's TGA and Finland's FIMEA accreditations, without dates.
The network-level statement of no OAI outcomes covers every Piramal site, not Pithampur specifically. Sponsors should ask for the Pithampur site's own latest FDA inspection date and classification. (Inference.)
8. Symbiotec Pharmalab

Est.: 2002 (incorporated 20 September 2002, Madhya Pradesh)
Headquarters: 385/2, Pigdamber, Rau, Mhow, Indore 453331
Indore-region operation: API plant at Rau (Indore district); API and fermentation plant in the Pithampur SEZ (Dhar district); complex injectables facility at Mhow (Indore district). A biomanufacturing site in Ujjain falls outside this list
Type: Steroid and hormone APIs, plus CDMO
Regulatory status: None disclosed in the offer document for these sites
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE and BSE, listed 1 September 2026 · ₹8,691.49 million (restated, per the offer document)
Symbiotec is the only company in this list headquartered in the Indore region. Its offer document describes an R&D-driven maker of corticosteroid and steroidal-hormone APIs with 66 API drug master files (DMFs) in fiscal 2026, and reports FY26 revenue from operations of ₹8,691.49 million, of which ₹330.50 million came from injectables. The company's shares listed on 1 September 2026.
The offer document gives each site's scale. Rau has 92 tonnes of chemical synthesis capacity. Pithampur has 300 kilolitres of fermentation and 492.67 tonnes of chemical synthesis capacity. Mhow is a commissioned complex-injectables facility. The document also notes that the auditor's reports for fiscal 2024 to 2026 contain modifications.
As a newly listed company, Symbiotec's exchange disclosures on inspections start in September 2026. For older history, the offer document is the primary record. (Inference.)
9. Unichem Laboratories

Est.: 1944, Mumbai (incorporated 1962)
Headquarters: 47, Kandivli Industrial Estate, Kandivli (West), Mumbai
Indore-region operation: API plant at Plot 197, Industrial Area, Sector I, Pithampur, Dhar district
Type: APIs
Regulatory status: No adverse regulator outcome found in Unichem's exchange disclosures for the Pithampur plant
Listed / Revenue from operations, FY26: NSE (UNICHEMLAB), BSE (506690) · ₹2,201.85 crore (consolidated, audited) · Subsidiary of Ipca Laboratories
Unichem is an export-led generics company in which Ipca held 52.67% as of its FY2024-25 annual report. Its audited FY26 results show revenue from operations of ₹2,201.85 crore and profit after tax of ₹252.84 crore, which includes an exceptional gain of ₹275.52 crore from selling its former registered office.
Unichem's contact page places its Pithampur plant in Sector I of the industrial area, outside the SEZ. It is one of three API plants, with Roha and Kolhapur in Maharashtra, according to its manufacturing sites page. The FY25 annual report records a Phase I expansion at Pithampur of about 210 kilolitres, costing nearly ₹200 crore. Unichem's formulation plant is covered in our Ghaziabad list.
Ipca's own presentation shows this plant on its map. Buyers sourcing from "Ipca" in Pithampur should confirm whether the supplying entity is Ipca or Unichem. (Inference.)
10. Viatris (Mylan Laboratories)

Headquarters: United States (Viatris Inc.); the Indian operating company is Mylan Laboratories Limited
Indore-region operation: Oral finished-dose plant at Plots 11, 12 & 13, Indore SEZ Pharma Zone, Phase II, Sector III, Pithampur, Dhar district
Type: Formulations
Regulatory status: U.S. FDA warning letter dated 19 December 2024 and an import alert covering 11 products; WHO information note of 31 March 2025 states the prequalification status of the site's products "remains current"
Listed: Nasdaq (VTRS). Viatris reports on a calendar year, so no FY26 line is given
Viatris said on 23 December 2024 that, after an FDA inspection earlier that year, the agency had issued a warning letter and an import alert for its Indore oral finished-dose facility. The import alert covers 11 actively distributed products, with conditional exceptions for four because of shortage concerns. Viatris said it had begun a remediation plan supported by independent third-party experts.
WHO's information note of 31 March 2025 gives the site's address and FDA reference: warning letter 320-25-281, following an inspection on 14–16 June 2024. WHO kept its prequalified products listed, with enhanced batch-release checks. A for-cause WHO inspection on 3–7 March 2025 found deficiencies, including late notification of an out-of-specification (OOS) stability result.
This is the clearest case in the cluster of one site carrying different regulator positions at the same time. Procurement teams should file both the FDA and WHO documents, with dates. (Inference.)
Who checks their work
Every plant above answers to two regulators. Its manufacturing licence comes from Madhya Pradesh's Food and Drugs Administration in Bhopal. For large-volume parenterals, vaccines and biosimilar products, and for the WHO-format certificates that exporters need, CDSCO's Indore office joins the inspection. The next section sets out what that office does.
Regulators in Indore
This office is not a company and does not count toward the entries above. For more on how India's regulators work, see our regulatory intelligence coverage.
CDSCO Sub Zone, Indore

Status: Sub-zonal office of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO); its administration and budget sit with CDSCO's West Zone office in Mumbai
Address: CDSCO Bhawan, GPO Square, Residency Area, A.B. Road, Indore 452001
Jurisdiction: Madhya Pradesh
The office began work on 22 February 2010 inside the Container Corporation of India's inland container depot at Pithampur, Dhar district, to regulate drug and cosmetic exports from Indore, according to CDSCO's 2026 suo motu disclosure for the sub-zone. It later moved into Indore and has occupied its A.B. Road premises since July 2021. That origin tells a sourcing reader what the cluster was built for: export.
The disclosure lists the office's work. It joins the state authority on licensing inspections for drug manufacturing, vaccines and sera, large-volume parenterals (LVPs) and recombinant DNA (rDNA) and biosimilar products. It also carries out joint inspections for WHO-format Certificates of Pharmaceutical Product (COPPs), processes Written Confirmations for API exports to the European Union, inspects clinical trial and bioavailability/bioequivalence (BA/BE) sites and Class C and D medical device units, and draws drug samples, following up not-of-standard-quality (NSQ) results with the state.
State authority

Madhya Pradesh's licensing authority, which issues the manufacturing licences for the plants above, is the Controller, Food and Drugs Administration, in Bhopal, according to CDSCO's list of state licensing authorities.
What this means for sourcing and regulatory teams
In this cluster, the plant matters more than the parent company. Lupin's three Pithampur units sit on one SEZ campus, yet they drew three different FDA outcomes between January and November 2025. Cipla's Pithampur site holds a positive WHO report from June 2023 and a U.S. warning letter from November 2023. Qualify by site, and by unit where a company numbers them, and record the date of every status you rely on.
Company labels will not get you to the right inspection record. Cipla calls its plant "Pithampur, Indore"; Glenmark calls its plant "Indore" while the UK regulator's certificate gives a Pithampur SEZ address; Ipca lists "Indore (SEZ)" and "Pithampur" as separate locations, though the Indore SEZ lies in Pithampur. Match a site to its regulator documents by street address and, for U.S. supply, by FDA Facility Establishment Identifier (FEI).
The regulatory record here is also unusually public. FDA warning letters, WHO inspection reports and CDSCO disclosures are free to read, and nine of the ten companies here are listed, so material inspection outcomes reach the exchanges. A buyer who reads those documents directly will know more than one who relies on a supplier's approvals slide. The same discipline applies in our guides to Bangalore and Ghaziabad.
This guide grows only as entries are confirmed. A company with a manufacturing or R&D operation in Indore district or the Pithampur industrial area can ask to be considered through the contact page.
